When kids turn into teenagers, the job of parents gets really complicated. You invest so much love, time and energy. Yet, you never know if you actually reach them. You simply hope. Of course, we all know being a teenage is crazy and parents do not help! So no complaints.
Over the years, my daughter and I had those moments, when we connected over a song. We talked about the song, sometimes the lyrics but more often we simply shared what we feel about a melody, especially the beginning of the song. Thunderstruck, Money for Nothing or Bohemian Rhapsody are prime examples. Every beat has a meaning, every moment in the song tells our personal story beyond the lyrics. It is rare, but when it happens, it is magic.
Yesterday we drove home from the movies and she ran the playlist: Every song was magic. Reflecting on this, I believe those moments of magic is what makes life so wonderful. Plus, I have confidence, that teenagers can be reached.
